A soil engineer, also known as a soils engineer or a geotechnical engineer, is a type of civil engineer. Soil engineers focus on researching and evaluating the ground on which a building or structure is placed.
The objectives of their work are to consider environmental pressures the building may create, assess the load-bearing capacity of the building, and to better understand foundational and ground-related problems of existing structures.
