Burial Casket Manufacturing

Burial casket manufacturing emerged as a distinct industry in the United States in the 1800's. Burial casket manufacturers produce burial caskets, cases and vaults intended to contain remains during and after burial or until cremation. Consumers may purchase caskets from funeral homes or directly from the manufacturer. Caskets typically are made of wood or metal and contain cloth interiors and decorative hardware. Some manufacturers produce only the wooden or metal casket, while others also produce, sew and install the interior cloth linings, bed and pillow covers, head and foot panels, and other customized elements. The industry employs many skilled craftspeople.
