Management consultants advise organizations to help improve their performance. The industry began to develop shortly after the rise of management as a unique field of enterprise in the late 19th century, along with the Industrial Revolution. Consultants work with their clients in areas such as corporate strategy, organizational design, human resources, information technology strategy, marketing and sales, finance, and logistics. Management consulting has recently branched out into non-business related fields, working with governments, public sector agencies, and not-for-profit organizations; as the need for professional and specialized advice in these areas grows, non-business institutions are relying more and more on the same strategic and analytical principles that have helped corporations.
