Ambulance services are made up of standby ambulance or first-aid services, and emergency and nonemergency surface and air ambulances. Services are usually provided during a medical emergency, via industry vehicles equipped with lifesaving equipment operated by medically trained personnel. As well as publicly-funded organizations, the industry also includes private operators that provide transportation and medical care of patients by ground or air.
